A Darkening Coast takes its inspiration from Ready for the Storm, a collaboration with musician Jocelyn Pettit on the song of the same name. While gathering storm footage along Vancouver Island’s west coast, I followed heavy skies, rising wind, and waves moving toward shore from Ucluelet and Tofino to Sooke and Port Renfrew.
The project looks at the moment when weather begins to take over: the coast darkens, the ocean shifts, and mountains disappear into cloud. It is a photographic study of gathering storms across Vancouver Island and British Columbia, shaped by the memory of Ready for the Storm and the pull of the Pacific Northwest coast.
