Textures of the Salish Sea is an ongoing black-and-white film project.

It began with repeated walks along Vancouver Island’s coast through the seasons, watching what the tide leaves behind and how intricate tidal life connects the beach to the rainforest. Beachcombing is part of life on the island; this project follows that same instinct, but with a macro lens instead of a bucket.

Using black-and-white film, a macro lens, and a slow, observational approach, the work follows the tide, studies the small traces of coastal life, and seeks hidden details in the heart of the rainforest. The project is less about collecting objects than learning to read the textures, patterns, and quiet connections within the Salish Sea ecosystem.
