Sandmarc

I have honestly used the Sandmarc 58mm less than the Moment mobile lenses, so this is still more of an early impression than a full long-term review. I am still working on that. But from the little I have shot with it, the lens feels quite sharp and clean, with pleasing depth of field and subject separation.

Compared with the Moment 58mm T-Series V1, I found the Sandmarc sharper and cleaner overall. I have not tested it against the newer Moment T-Series II, so I would not treat this as a final comparison.

The lens is made of metal and glass, comes with a small carrying case plus front and rear caps, and the screw-on mount feels secure once attached. It is slower than a bayonet-style system, but it also feels more locked in.

The built-in filter thread is a real advantage, especially if you already use Sandmarc filters or want a cleaner way to add mobile ND, CPL, or diffusion filters. The 43mm thread also makes it possible to adapt custom filters with a step-up ring.

The Good:

• Sharp and clean from my early use.

• Made of metal and glass, with a well-constructed feel.

• Pleasing depth of field and subject separation.

• Screw-on mount feels secure once attached.

• Front 43mm filter thread is useful for Sandmarc filters or custom filters with a step-up ring.

• Works well with Sandmarc’s own filters.

• Comes with a small carrying case plus front and rear lens caps.

• Can be used without a case thanks to the included clip-on adapter, though it may not be as secure for extended use and is overall more comfortable with a case.

The Bad:

• Screw-on mounting is slower than a bayonet-style system, even if it feels more secure.

• Smaller accessory ecosystem than Moment, though it is growing.

• Get it if you want a sharp, clean 58mm-style mobile telephoto lens.

• Get it if you prefer a secure screw-on mount over a faster bayonet mount.

• Pass if you already use Moment and do not want to manage another mobile lens ecosystem.
