The Moment 1.33x Anamorphic lens is special to me. I was part of the Kickstarter campaign for the original Moment anamorphic lens back in 2018, and at the time, it felt genuinely fun and a little wild to be able to shoot anamorphic footage on a phone.

That is still the main appeal here. This lens is not about making the iPhone technically perfect; it is about adding character: the wider frame, the blue horizontal flares (or gold, depending on the model you choose), the stretched image, and that little bit of cinematic weirdness you do not get from the built-in lenses.

Like the 58mm and 18mm T-Series I lenses, this version can show its limits on newer iPhones. Softness, edge issues, colour aberrations, and alignment sensitivity can appear, and with an anamorphic lens those flaws can be even more visible. But to some extent, that is also expected. Anamorphic lenses are not usually about clinical perfection.

That said, if you are buying today for a newer phone, the T-Series II seems like the better choice. Moment rebuilt those newer lenses for larger modern phone cameras, with improved overall image quality and better compatibility. The T-Series I still has charm, especially if you already own it, but the newer version makes more sense for current iPhones.

The Good:

• Fun way to shoot anamorphic on a phone.

• 1.33x squeeze gives a cinematic widescreen frame.

• Blue flares add a recognizable anamorphic look.

• More character than the built-in iPhone lenses.

• Special lens if you enjoy mobile filmmaking and experimenting.

• Works with Moment cases or the stick-on lens plate.

The Bad:

• T-Series I can show softness and edge issues on newer iPhones.

• Colour aberrations, flare, and alignment issues can be more noticeable than on regular Moment lenses.

• Requires de-squeeze in-camera or in post-production.

• Requires a case, mount, or lens plate, so it adds friction compared with just shooting handheld.

• T-Series II seems like the better choice for newer phones.

• Get it if you want to shoot anamorphic footage on your iPhone.

• Get it if mobile filmmaking is part of your kit and you enjoy experimenting.

• Pass if you do not want to deal with de-squeezing, cases, mounts, or alignment.

If you already own the T-Series I version, it is still worth keeping and using for the character. It is fun, imperfect, and still one of the most interesting ways to make phone footage feel different from default iPhone video.

If you are buying today, especially for iPhone 15 and newer, I would look at the T-Series II first. Just like with the 18mm and 58mm, the newer version was designed around larger modern phone cameras and should offer better sharpness, fewer defects, and better overall compatibility.
