This is my third Alpha bag from Langly, alongside a few other bags from them. I have always bought my gear from Langly, but I also genuinely consider myself a fan of their bags. The main reason? They do not scream “camera bag,” and for a long time, they came in colours other than plain black.
Each new version of the Alpha brought welcome improvements. I do not own the latest XC version, but the previous Alpha Globetrotter has been a strong everyday and travel camera backpack for a compact kit. At 24 litres, it forces you to carry only the essentials, which can be a good thing. It is not the bag I would choose for a heavy outdoor setup, but for day-to-day photography, city travel, and lighter assignments, it hits a nice balance between camera protection and normal backpack usability.
The camera compartment is easier to access than on earlier versions, the exterior pockets can actually hold larger water bottles, and the weatherproofing has held up well in the Pacific Northwest. It also fits a 16-inch MacBook Pro, which matters if you want one bag for camera gear, computer, and everyday carry.
The Good:
- 24L is a good everyday size and keeps you from overpacking.
- Does not look like a traditional camera bag.
- Weatherproofing is strong and well suited to rainy Pacific Northwest conditions.
- Camera compartment is much easier to access than on older Alpha models.
- External pockets are large enough for bigger water bottles.
- The XC version can combine the top and lower compartments into one larger space.
- Fits a 16-inch laptop, including recent MacBook Pro models.
The Bad:
- Lack of side external straps limits outdoor carry options.
- Latest XC version only available in black.
- Not ideal for very large camera kits.
- Harder to find outside the U.S.
- Get it if you want a stylish travel camera backpack that does not look too technical.
- Get it for compact photo kits, everyday carry, and city or travel work.
- Get it if weather resistance and laptop carry matter to you.
- Pass if you regularly carry a large professional camera kit.
